AC Chamber Project : New String Sounds
Wednesday, April 19, 2017 | Doors : 7:00pm

AC Chamber Project: New String Sounds is the second annual concert series curated by Hamilton Berry. For 2017, the lineup will showcase NYC chamber groups that explore unconventional sounds, styles, and programs for string instruments.

Show starts at 7:30PM.

The Decline of Western Civilization (directed by Penelope Spheeris) is an American documentary that chronicles the Los Angeles punk rock scene between 1979 and 1980.

String Noise is New York’s “most daring violin duo.” Their first feature album “The Book of Strange Positions” was released on Northern Spy Records in November 2015. Tiny Mix Tapes describes this collection of original works and arrangements by Eric Lyon of Bad Brains, Violent Femmes, Deerhoof, Radiohead, and Black Flag as a “mix of classic punk covers and ZERO APOLOGIES.”

String Noise (Conrad Harris Official and Pauline Kim Harris, violins) will play the soundtrack live in concert for The Decline of Western Civilization – featuring music by BLACK FLAG, GERMS, CATHOLIC DISCIPLINE, X, CIRCLE JERKS, ALICE BAG BAND and FEAR. They called upon 16 different composers from around the country to arrange the 23 songs in the film for two violins. Watch the early LA punk bands on screen and hear the avant-punk arrangements of the songs played live by String Noise – a whole new experience.

New arrangements by: Jerome Begin (Juilliard/Tranimal), Tom Chiu (FLUX Quartet and ensemblemetrix), Robert Constable, John Glover, Elizabeth Hoffman (NYU), Paul Reller (USF), Michael Leonhart (MLO), John King (Merce Cunningham Dance Company), Eric Lyon (Virginia Tech), James Moore (Dither Quartet), Andrew Christopher Smith (Indexical), Spencer Topel (Dartmouth), Ken Ueno (UC Berkeley), Aleksandra Vrebalov, Mustafa Walker (The Happy Valley Band), and David Kant (The Happy Valley Band).
