FLAT OUT:
Ein lebendiger Gartenzwerg in Bad Ems
Ondrej Brody & Krisofer Paetau
VideoSeptember 8 - 21, 2011
In their work, Brody and Paetau look at the grotesque aspects of both the institutionalized art world and art production. Their strategy is obvious and almost embarrassing in its straightforwardness, but that is their strongest aspect. Oscillating between use and abuse, advanced manipulation and cold, untouchable registration of absurd reality, their work is sincere in its desire to uncover the pathologies and hidden normalcies of inter-human relations.
In Ein lebendiger Gartenzwerg in Bad Ems, a short statured man dressed as a garden gnome accompanies the two artists throughout the public spaces and resident gardens of Bad Ems, Germany. By working with an actor as a “living sculpture,” the artists seek to engage the public in a new and knowingly problematic way.
