FLAT OUT: Dallas
Tré Chandler

In an increasingly rhizomatic world defined by information exchange, Tré Chandler sees himself as a transitive vessel: a biological interface for the codes and references that make up the cultural currency and authenticity of his experience. He uses his artistic practice to convey the humorous extremity of contemporary existence.

Dallas is a single-channel video made in 2009. This amusing work portrays characters transmitting ‘personality’ with repeated mediated gestures. The no-budget quality isolates body language and exposes the casualness of video logic articulated in human behavior.

About the Artist
Tré Chandler was born David Chandler III in Landstuhl, Germany in 1984. He received his BFA from Ohio University in Athens, OH (2006) and his MFA from School of Visual Arts in New York, NY (2009). He has exhibited throughout New York, including at The Gay Center, Interstate Projects, Visual Arts Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts. In 2010, Dallas was included in the Homoscope International Queer Arts and Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Chandler is co-founder of HammerSpace.info, an ongoing project dedicated to reimagining the pop-up experimental art space. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

FLAT OUT is a bi-weekly rotating video series curated by Nicole Bebout. For the series, new works by emerging and experimental artists from across the globe are displayed on a LCD screen mounted at the entrance of AC Institute.
