Analyzing
Maria Anwander
VideoJune 7 – June 16, 2012
Influenced by conceptual art, Maria Anwander’s practice is established between the fields of performance and installation. By utilizing different kinds of artistic media, including photography, video and sculpture, her work questions the authenticity of artworks as well as the gap between the art-market and the artist. Instead of giving refined didactic answers, her work shows the formal process of her investigations.
Most recently, Anwander investigates issues of collection, ownership, and authorship. For the video Analyzing, Adolfo Profumo, a New York psychoanalyst unacquainted with the artist, tries to tell Anwander about herself looking through her portfolio. The video questions the certainty of art interpretations.
